The Power of the Horse

For 35 years CATR has been providing horsemanship and riding services to the tri-county area focusing on people with disabilities. Through horsemanship and riding our students build strength, confidence, friendships, and so much more! Celebrating the Year of the Horse comes naturally to the CATR Community as we celebrate our 35th year of changing people’s lives. The horse has had one of the biggest impacts on human civilization of any animal. For thousands of years, horses have helped people travel, farm, trade, communicate, fight wars, build economies, and form deep emotional bonds. Their “power” is both physical and emotional.

Today, horses continue to improve lives in powerful ways that layer into our student’s everyday lives. Horses respond to human emotions and body language, which can help people become calmer and more self-aware. The CATR herd is the heartbeat of our programming and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. Horses remain important because they offer something that you cannot find in any other setting: a living partnership between humans and an animal ten times your size. Their steadiness, intelligence, and intuition continue to improve our students’ physical, emotional, and social well-being. For many people who come to CATR, their horse becomes a teacher, a friend, and a source of healing.
